Dr. Clara Ricketts is a retired special educator and behavior management specialist with over 50 years of experience working with persons with special needs including those with Emotional Behavioral Disorder (EBD), and learning challenges. As the parent of a child diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). Dr. Ricketts personally discovered effective strategies to help her son thrive—both academically and emotionally.
Her commitment to helping other families led to the founding of Sure Foundation Educational Centre (SFEC), a school she successfully operated for 20 years. Under her guidance, countless children with special needs made remarkable progress. Her own son, Richard, is now a thriving adult with a master’s degree, a successful career, and a family of his own—a true testament to her methods and dedication.
With the closure of SFEC, Dr. Ricketts now serves as a consultant through Sure Foundation Consulting Services (SFCS), offering online programs and parent support initiatives. Dr. Ricketts is eminently qualified and deeply passionate about helping parents and children overcome behavioral and learning challenges so every child can reach his/her full potential.
I am a true testament to the BEAM framework. My mother believed in me when many people were quick to give up. She saw potential in me long before I recognized it in myself, and her belief became the foundation that pushed me toward achieving great heights.
She embraced me fully—my strengths, my challenges, and my journey. Her constant encouragement gave me the confidence to grow into the man I am today.
She applied practical strategies to support my development. One of the most effective was her rewards program. Even though positive behavior was sometimes a struggle, she found creative and compassionate ways to help me overcome my challenges, guiding me step by step.
At the end of each month, she would measure my progress by creating a tally that showed what I had improved and what still needed work. This simple but powerful system helped shape my discipline, self-awareness, and determination. It became a lifelong guide.
I truly would not be who I am today without her unwavering belief, embrace, strategies, and commitment to my growth.
Going to this school gave me another chance at life on an academic level. In primary school I wasn’t keeping up with my grades; they were low and it wasn’t going well for me. We found the Sure Foundation, and this school took me on a different learning level that paid personal attention in areas that I was weak in. They helped me to excel in areas I was struggling in and because of this, I was able to succeed in the GNAT examination.
When my child came to this school at age 13, he could do nothing. This school took him off the ground and gave both he and myself hope. It gives me a reason to go on.
When I first came to this school, I hated it. The teachers showed me love, and I showed them anger and hate, but the more I gave trouble, the more they loved me. I am grateful for what this school has done for me. My only wish is that the Sure Foundation Educational Centre be recognized as the best private school in Jamaica for children with special needs.
I had never heard of Sure Foundation EC and majority of my friends were going to more prominent schools. Now that I’ve been here I’m surrounded by amazing teachers who are more like mother figures. My greatest joy was seeing my students improve. What did Sure Foundation do for me? It taught me how to teach with experience before I even finished college. May the doors of Sure Foundation Educational Centre forever be open to those who need it most.
I express appreciation for what the school gives to my child and other children like her. It provides a hope for them that they would never have in any other setting. It is a ratio of almost one to one, and the teachers work with both the students and their parents like nowhere else. It uses a holistic approach applying godliness though not in a religious setting. She herself is the adoptive mother of a child with learning disability and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.
